LAD/Blog #35: Home was a Horse Stall

1) The American nickname given to Tsuyako is not surprising because Americans have always tried to assimilate people that they viewed as different into their own existing culture and society.
2) The living conditions that individuals of Japanese ancestry had to endure just for being Japanese was unjust.
3) The resilience of those who were trapped in internment camps to find ways to avoid going stir crazy through activities such as clubs and teams, shows determination and an ability to adapt to horrible circumstances.

Civilian Exclusion Order No. 27 (Executive Order 9066)

In 1988, an investigation by the Commission of Wartime Relocation and Internment of Civilians ended with the passage of the Civil Liberties Act of 1988. Under the law, every survivor was given $20,000 in reparations. It also provided compensation to people in Alaska who had to relocate as well as the establishment of a fund on educating people about the experiences of people in internment camps.
